Indian national gets 17 years, 12 strokes of cane for killing prostitute
Just because the killer was proved to not have the intention to kill and thus, charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, he gets away with just 17 years of prison and 12 strokes of cane. This would be alright if this killer was remorseful. The court should take into consideration his cold-bloodedness and demonstration of inhumanity when he brought another prostitute back to the same room to have another round of sex on the same bed when just hours ago, he had killed one prostitute and hid her under the bed. Understanding that he did not have the intention to kill, he should be given life imprisonment.
Indonesia rages over luxury jail cells for wealthy
This is yet another display of how corrupted Indonesia is. What’s the point of going to jail then? It is like house arrest instead of serving time in prison, except that the perks are even better than house arrest because the prisoners are able to receive unlimited and unregistered visitors in their cells and not be monitored. If prison can be this luxurious, corruptors can just treat going to jail as going for a retreat away from home. Indonesia, you are the ‘best’. After all, Transparency International, the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption, ranks you among the most corrupt in the world. I really pity the poor people in Indonesia. Those who are so poor that they have to delve into committing crime, have to suffer overcrowding in jail cells and here the rich criminals, live all high and mighty (in a prison ‘room’). Nevertheless, kudos to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who initiated this surprise checks in an effort to eradicate the so-called "Judicial Mafia." It is truly not easy to manage a big country.
